The west end neighbourhood gets its name from the fact that it is the location where four railway lines converge. The area was alcohol free until 1990, when the prohibition on alcohol was lifted by the city. In the past, the area was considered rough as residents recall prostitutes on the street.

The Axis Bar and Grill was the first establishment to serve alcohol in the area. More restaurants have begun to move into the area.

In recent times, the area has been filling up with young professionals, as real estate is cheap compared to its neighbour High Park. The average house price is $450K.
