Leslieville is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is east of the Don River bounded by the Canadian National railway line and Gerrard Street to the north, Empire Avenue to the west, Eastern Avenue to south, and Coxwell Avenue to the east.

History

Leslieville began as a small village in the 1850s and was named after George Leslie and sons. The main industry was gardening and factory work

Gentrification

Gentrification has taken over the neighbourhood since the 1990s. The reduction in air pollution and fumes have made it much more appealing to members of the middle and creative class. There are still a large number of working class families in the neighbourhood.

Industry

Formerly home to industry, the former industrial areas are being used as large film studios. These include Cinevillage, Showline Studios and Pinewood Toronto Studios.
