St. Michael's Hospital - Toronto

St. Michael's Hospital is located in downtown Toronto (Queen East near Yonge St.) It is a teaching hospital associated with the University of Toronto. Established in 1892, its founding goal is to take care of the sick and poor of Toronto's inner city. It is known as the "Inner City Hospital". Know for its service of the poor, the hospital gets considerably less attention that those of the high profile University Health Network. Its symbol is the "urban angel"

The hospital serves as a level 1 trauma centre for the area south of Bloor St. (the other center is Sunnybrook Hospital). It is also a leader in cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, inner city health and therapeutic endoscopy. The hospital has 500 beds.

The hospital employs >3000 people and was named one of Toronto's Top Employers in 2009.

Visiting hourse

Visiting hours: adaily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.(exception of obstetrics & gynecology, neonatal ICU, mental health services, the palliative care unit and critical care)

Two visitors per patient are allowed at one time.
