History

Many of the players on the SCO Whalers / Banana Blades play in the Safe and Fun hockey league. The original team was named the Banana Blades and had a wide variety of different players playing in different leagues. This team sported Yellow jerseys which promoted the team name. The team did not play for a couple of years in the late 2000s and was resurrected with a majority of different players in 2011 mostly from the Safe and Fun Hockey League. The manager was changed to Patrick Lee in 2011 and entered into the Lower Rec division. Minor changes had taken place to the roster in 2012 which strengthened both the Offensive and Defensive capabilities. It has also been a little known fact that both the 2011 and 2012 teams have been all natural Asian teams who have not utilized the 2 import player allocation.

The 2013 Smart Choice Optical team utilized the 2 import player allocation and competed in the Entry division due to a required last change by the AHC Director for assistance although originally entered into the Rec Division. A surprising turn of events occured in the first game which had the team without a goalie which resulted in losing this game. The SCO Whalers put adversity aside and went undefeated in their subsequent games to win their first Championiship.

This upcoming 2014 tournament, the SCO Whalers have moved back up into the Rec division with some new additions to the roster, a great sense of anticipation and a thirst for repeating their previous year's success.

Elimination Controversy

The 2011 Banana Blades finished the Round Robin with a 2-1 record and was one of the strong contenders to vie for the 22nd Annual AHC Lower Rec division title. However, the referees decided to change the outcome of the game by becoming overly noticeable instead of letting the game be played. In a very tight sudden death Quarter Final game, the referees decided to make two judgement calls of crease violations to disallow two goals scored by the Banana Blades which eliminated them from further pursuing a Championship run. With having video replay of the so-called "crease violations" one disallowed goal was clearly a non-violation as the player was falling within the slot area at least 5 feet away from the blue crease.

2005 And2 Team

2005 Asian Hockey Championship - Recreational Division

Prior to the conception of the Banana Blades team, the team was named "And2" coined from a mixture of the American Athletic Shoe Company "And1" but modified with the number 2 for the number of Imports allowed on the team that were of non-Asian descent.

The Recreational division was in fact combined into one and within this year (Upper and Lower Recreational divisions were created in 2006). Lead by a variety of SFHL players, And2 emerged as the eventual Recreational Division Champions!

Unfortuantely, there is a lack of statistical data and therefore, Opponents and Game Scores are unavailable.
